The days are getting shorter and we find ourselves waking up in the dark and going to bed in the dark. Winter mornings are especially hard to get out of bed. If you’re like me, waking up in the mornings is hard anyway. So when it’s cold and dark, it’s a miracle we get out of bed at all.
In 2018, I read about someone who hated mornings as much as I did and how they had stumbled across this magical alarm clock that made a massive difference.
This alarm clock was different than regular alarm clocks. Instead of giving you a mini heart attack each morning with a beeping noise from hell, it gradually simulates the light of the sun rising and gently and slowly lights up your bedroom with light. The gradual increase of light is what wakes you up, not the jarring noise of the alarm. It also has a “sunset” setting that simulates the sun going down, which helps your body wind down and helps you to fall asleep easily.
So I purchased the sunrise alarm clock and put it to the test. Here are my findings:
Waking up with the “Sunrise”
The alarm clock makes it easy to set how bright it gets, how fast or slow you want it to light up your room (I usually go with 20 minutes) and one of five wake-up sounds to use when it reaches its maximum brightness.
The LED light is a soft orange and you can adjust the intensity.
It has the option to set two different alarms. I usually have one for during the week and the second for weekends or special occasions.
Wake-up Sounds:
The sounds to choose from are Bird Song, Birds in the forest, Zen Garden, Gentle piano and Seaside Sounds. My favorite is the piano.
Snooze Option
Snooze the alarm just by tapping the light.
FM Radio
I’ve never used this option, but it does work.
The Clock
The clock display is a red light that is meant to disturb your sleep as little as possible. I’m not bothered by the small amount of red light this produces, but if it bothers you, it’s easy to turn it away from you and still take advantage of the “sun rise” effect.
The display is also large enough for me to be able to read the time even without my contacts or glasses, which is important because I’m fairly blind without them.
Sunset Setting
To help your body know it’s time for bed, you can set it for the “sun to set” at 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes later. I get into bed, set it, read an actual book for 30 minutes or so and the “sun goes down” gradually and I go to bed. I fall asleep quicker and I’ve been able to break the habit of being on my phone right before bed.
Worth the Investment
I’ve never spent so much on an alarm clock in my life, but it has been worth it’s weight in gold. I sleep better. I wake up easier and happier. My body used to hurt when I’d wake up because I was so tired. That doesn’t happen anymore.
Amazing Reviews

I’ve used it every day since 2018
I only recommend products that I use and have found work well. This has been one of the best purchases I’ve ever made and have recommended it to friends and family. This one is definitely worth checking out, especially if you struggle waking up in the mornings.
